Special Olympics Washington

Incorporated in 1975, Special Olympics Washington (SOWA) provides year-round sports training and competition for children and adults with intellectual disabilities. Special Olympics Washington provides athletes continuing opportunities to develop physical fitness, demonstrate courage, experience joy and participate in a sharing of gifts, skills and friendship with their families, other Special Olympic athletes, and the community. The vision of Special Olympics is to help bring all persons with intellectual disabilities into the larger society under conditions whereby they are accepted, respected and given the chance to become useful and productive citizens. Four sports seasons are offered each year in 19 different Olympic-type sports.
