Samaritans

Established in 1974 as the first stand-alone Samaritans branch in the U.S., Samaritans' mission is to prevent suicide and offer hope and support to those affected. We envision a world without suicide. Samaritans services are free to all who seek help and consist of three primary programs. Our intervention approach (Crisis Services) includes training and supporting befriending volunteers to provide compassionate, confidential listening on our phone and text Helpline to those who are isolated, despairing, and suicidal. Prevention (Community Education and Outreach) provides tailored workshops and training to build awareness of the warning signs of suicide and how to help someone at risk. Postvention (Grief Support Services) provides grief support for survivors who have lost a loved one to suicide, and who are often at an increased risk of suicide themselves.
