At New York Restoration Project (NYRP), we believe everyone deserves access to clean, green open space. Since our founding in 1995 by Bette Midler, we have partnered with underserved communities to restore and return public space to neighborhood residents. Working in the lowest income neighborhoods in New York City, which have the least amount of green space and the greatest need for its social, environmental, and economic benefits, NYRP pioneered this movement nearly 25 years ago with measurable results. We support good health in low-income communities, teach and mentor future environmental leaders, sustain a job training pipeline, build, maintain, and program 52 community gardens citywide, manage 80 acres of public parkland, and empower community partners to be stakeholders. In every neighborhood where we work, we build social and environmental resilience: crime is down, health has improved, and demand for our work is growing.
