The NAE is a member of the National Academies - which includes the NAE, the National Academy of Sciences, the Institute of Medicine, and the National Research Council - which serves as the principal operating arm of the academies. The NAE has more than 2,000 peer-elected members and foreign associates, senior professionals in business, academia, and government who are among the world's most accomplished engineers.
